Saree (or Sari) is considered to be the most magnificent piece of clothing for women. It helps to enhance the inner beauty of a woman. Even the Hindu Goddesses can be seen carrying elegant sarees. Saree is an Indian attire that is suited not just to Indian women but also those in foreign. Several times, we see foreign women wearing sarees and embracing them

However, wearing a saree and carrying it with grace is not easy. It is a long piece of cloth that has to be draped around the body in a specific style. The pleats, the pinning, the blouse, the petticoat, and other details have to be strictly considered before wearing it. If you are wearing or going to wear a saree for the first time, then be ready to face the below-mentioned challenges:

How do you style it?

The first question that arises in one’s mind is how do you style it? Nowadays, you can find several fashion influencers suggesting innumerable ways to wear a saree but it is the tradition that works the best.

Of course, you can try out new and trendy ways to wear a saree if you are looking for quirky styles. However, in the traditional system of wearing saree in India, you can find different styles in different states. The style will vary from Kashmir to Gujarat to West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

It is one of the challenges that women have to face while wearing a saree because one style may suit them while the other may not. The only way to solve this dilemma is to do what your gut says and be confident with your choice.

Draping the saree round and round

We have all seen our mothers wearing sarees every day in the house and at work. We had never thought how difficult it was to drape the saree because when our mothers did it, it seemed like a cakewalk.

If you want to learn different techniques for draping the saree, look for YouTube tutorials online. You may even ask your mother, relative, or friend to do it for you.

Draping also involves moving along with the saree, the length of the saree is so long that sometimes you may end up getting entangled in it. You can even hire a professional draper to solve this problem.

Falling multiple times while walking

Do you think you need a license to drive? Well, you even need a license to walk in a saree, because not only can you injure yourself but also people around. Saree is a beautiful garment, it always keeps flowing and that is why when you wear it for the first time, you keep falling.

It is even more challenging when you let your hair open and wear heels. Let’s accept that it is too much to handle. Wearing a saree is one challenge while walking in it is another challenge altogether.

How much is too much?

When you wear a saree for the first time in your life, it is either at the school farewell or some relative’s wedding. Wearing a saree and carrying it perfectly is an art. And art requires years to master.

Usually, girls do not know how the neckline or the blouse has to be. The blouse and petticoat have to perfectly fit the body so that there are no loose ends left. However, most of the girls do not know how much is too much or how little is too little.

You have to strike the right balance between looking sexy and elegant. Go to your tailor and tell them your requirements in advance so that you don’t have to deal with deep neck or deep back issues with your blouse.

The biggest one: How do you use the loo?

It is one of the biggest problems faced by every girl wearing a saree whether or not for the first time. The entire saree and petticoat have to be lifted for you to be able to pee. It is impossible to save your saree from getting drenched in the water when you are using the restroom. Even the women who wear saree everyday face this issue multiple times.

It is the biggest difficulty because sometimes, you may also land up breaking the safety pins and the pleats. The only solution to this problem is to drink less water for the duration that you have to wear the saree and build the capacity to hold it.

Safety pins opening at multiple places

It is necessary to secure the saree with safety pins. There is a high risk of shoulder pleats getting opened resulting in the entire saree falling off your body. However, sometimes even the safety pins may create a lot of problems. When your body is in movement, it may open from multiple places and dig right into your skin.

Most girls use an entire no of safety pins to keep the saree in place, but they are not aware of the safety pins getting opened unannounced. This is a very big challenge while wearing a saree for the first time. It is advised to use only a few of them wherever necessary to eliminate the risk of injury.

In every lifestyle, girls have to go through several problems relating to their clothing. Saree only adds up to their list of issues. Sometimes, the material of the saree is too itchy or heavy to carry. The embroidery at the borders can also add up to the already existing difficulties. But you can always change into your comfy pajamas once you are home. So that truly compensates.
