Our mind goes through a lot of emotions, thoughts, ideas, and stress throughout the day. And it is essential to relax for the healthy functioning of our brain and also our body. Meditation will not only help you relax but will also help you in having a better control on your thoughts and emotions. Here are some tips which will help you do meditation more effectively.

1. Choose the best time

Meditation is basically your relaxing time, so you need to schedule your meditation when you are absolutely free and you won’t be disturbed. Generally, people prefer meditating at the time of sunrise or sunset since these are the most peaceful time of the day. It’s not mandatory to meditate at sunrise or sunset, the point is to just select the most convenient time when you’ll be all alone.

2. Selection of place

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the selection of a place where you can meditate but it is important to find a place which is quiet and where you are comfortable. It can be your bedroom, your lawn, some corner in the local park or even your couch. Just make sure you are comfortable in that place and you should not get disturbed in that place.

3. Warm up before starting

Before starting with meditation do some warm-up exercises. You can do some stretching or sukshma yoga exercises. This will help you ease your body and remove restlessness and tensions from your muscles. Warm up will help your body to be more steady and you’ll be in a peaceful state for a longer time.

4. Focus on your breaths

Breathing is an involuntary exercise. We humans just breathe without thinking about it but while meditating one has to focus on each and every breath, each an every inhale and exhale. You can count your breathing, hold it for few seconds. Focused breathing will lead to a more peaceful state of meditation.

5. Don’t force yourself

Understand the difference between being committed and forcing yourself to meditate. Meditation has to be an effortless process. If you force yourself to meditate you’ll no longer be able to relax and the basic idea behind meditation will be violated.

6. Feel the movements in your body

Observe the internal movements that take place in your body. How your diaphragm expands and contracts with each breath, how your muscles loosen up and also feel your body getting lighter during the session. This way you’ll be more connected to your body.

7. Let go of expectations

Be patient and don’t wait for the results desperately. Just pay attention to your own sensations and controlling and just believe in the process. Waiting for results will distract you. Instead just go with the flow and let the process of meditation unfold itself step by step. You’ll get the best results only when you’ll let go of desperation to gain results. And also just do it for yourself and not to show it others.
