After having gone through several sources, I myself was surprised to learn that breasts could be so interesting! Some of them are downright strange, while others will make you go “huh, I didn’t know that!” So if you’re ready, let us dive into the wonderful world of boobies.

1. Your breasts are probably not the same size:

Studies and surveys have shown that in most cases, a woman’s breasts are not identical in size. In fact, whether it is noticeable or not, your left side is probably bigger than your right. The asymmetry is more pronounced during development, but more or less normalises around the time of maturity. Furthermore, injury or trauma could also result in a difference in size.

2. Weight loss doesn’t impact their size:

You’d have to shed a sufficient amount of weight for noticeable shrinkage. To drop one cup size, a woman of average height and band size would need to lose 20 percent of her body weight! So unless you go through severe weight loss, you need not worry about your boobs dropping in size. If however, you do drop a significant amount of weight, there is also a danger that your breasts become droopy, because the skin and support is stretched out.

3. You can have nipple-gasms:

No joke. There is a sufficient amount of research out there that suggests your nipples are just as sensitive as your sexual organs and if stimulated properly, can lead to an orgasm! Self-stimulation of the nipple activates the same regions of the brain’s sensory cortex as genital stimulation does; once those regions are lit up, cells likely set off similar sexual responses in the body (including the potential for orgasm), no matter what the source of stimulation!

4. Skin care is important:

The skin around your breasts has the potential to be drier than the rest of your body because of the fact that it’s a stretched out area. Moisturising is definitely advised; women who regularly moisturize the area around their breasts found that they had younger and healthier looking breasts. You can minimise the amount of wrinkles and stretch marks as well, as water content in the surrounding skin decreases with time. In addition, when you put on those bikini tops, make sure to cover your breasts with a good amount of sunscreen  as prolonged exposure to the sun has also been linked to a loss in elasticity.

5. You might have an extra nipple (or two):

Just kidding! About the second extra nipple I mean. The presence of an extra nipple, medically known as a ‘supernumerary nipple’, is actually fairly common. This bonus nipple is usually just a variation in your body’s natural development, or the result of genetics. “The most common abnormality of breast development, which can be seen in both boys and girls, is an accessory nipple. So if you’ve got an extra, don’t fret! Studies show that 1 in 50 women sport an extra nipple and while it is not dangerous in itself, it is advisable to have it checked out by a medical professional.

6. Always, I mean ALWAYS, wear a sports bra:

No matter your breast size, never forego the sports bra. The feeling of discomfort is definitely a deterrent, but the way to fix it is to invest in a good (read:expensive) sports bra. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy during a heavy cardio session; they reduce upto 74 percent of chest movement. The breasts have no muscle- a fact that a lot of women overlook- so investing in a good sports bra is the only way to prevent sagging while you sweat it out.

7. There is no exercise to prevent sagging:

Sagging is a big concern for women and an inevitable part of life -age, pregnancies, and gravity all play a role- and while there might be some sources that say otherwise, there’s no exercise that can prevent breast tissue from sagging. That being said, maintaining posture and and strengthening the muscles around your chest will definitely help in maintaining the shape of your breasts for longer, so if you’re interested, you can indulge in some push-ups and chest opening exercises.

8. You’re probably wearing the wrong bra size:

If this is not your first visit to the blog, you’re probably aware of the statistic: 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size! So if you feel that you’re guilty of this oversight, a trip to your nearest lingerie store is necessary. You’re going to feel a lot better when your girls are in the right bra, take my word for it.

9. Sleeping face down changes the shape of your breasts:

It is definitely advisable to sleep with a pillow under your breasts, especially if you’re on the larger side. Not only do they allow for more comfortable sleep, the pillow also helps to maintain posture and prevents developmental problems later.

10. Not everything causes breast cancer:

If you’re a woman, you’ve probably dreaded the possibility of breast cancer. The rumours and the supposed reports do not help the paranoia either. There are several things that are said to be ‘linked to cancer’ but don’t take these claims at face value, they can do a lot more harm than good, especially if you distribute this information yourself. While breast cancer definitely has links to certain practices and phenomenon, it is not as easily contracted as one is made to believe.

Just when you thought you knew it all, we hit you with a load of new information. Once you’re done processing all the newly-acquired knowledge, pass it on to your fellow women! After all, the more you know about your breast friends, the better you can take care of them.
